Japanese turntablist and producer DJ Krush is one of the few island-nation throw-ups to be embraced by the global rap music world. Releasing material through Sony in Japan, Mo'Wax and Virgin in the U.K., and Axiom, Shadow, and A&M in America, Krush's wise firebrand of experimental, (largely) instrumental hip-hop has been praised by everyone from hard-core underground hip-hop 'zines like The Bomb to the spick-and-span offices of Rolling Stone and Spin. Beginning as a sleeping accommodation DJ in the mid-'80s following the Japanese leg of the Wildstyle circuit, Krush touched into mobile DJing, patronage up rappers, and eventually solo production. Although his Japan-only debut freely mixed elements of R&B and sulphurous nothingness with the beefy breakbeat spine of mid-tempo hip-hop, Krush's work has since tended more toward the filch, applying heavy personal effects and sampling handling to thick, smart breaks, layered, near ambient textures, and subtle, imaginative scratching. Krush came to larger clap in the mid-'90s through his association with the London-based Mo'Wax label, which released his Purely Turntablized in 1994 and Meiso in 1996, both reissued stateside by A&M. While Turntablized is closer to a compendium of DJ tools, Meiso is a retrovert of sorts to his before work, including rappers such as Guru and CL Smooth on a few tracks and incorporating a wider variety of implemental sounds and atmospheres. In add-on to 1997's Milight, Krush too featured on a identification number of various-artists collections, including Mo'Wax's storied Headz, as well as Altered Beats and Axiom Dub (both out on Bill Laswell's Axiom mark). Kakusei appeared on Mo'Wax/Columbia in 1999, followed by the mix albums Code 4109 and Tragicomical the following year. Zen Buddhism from 2001 was filled with client MCs while The Message at the Depth from 2003 featured far fewer and focused on instrumentals. Jaku landed in 2004, and two eld later the Stepping Stones collection featured Krush remixing highlight from his back catalogue.

The Da Vinci Code - Vatican Bans Da Vinci Code Prequel From Filming

Producers of Angels and Demons, the prequel to The Da Vinci Code, have been banned from filming in churches in Rome, due to the content of the movie's source novel.

The film has been prevented from shooting in churches in the Italian city as it "does not to conform to our views", explained Monsignor Marco Fibbi, a spokesman for the diocese of Rome.

A predecessor to Dan Brown's hugely successful novel The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons sees Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon attempting to uncover a plot to blow up the Vatican and discovering the influence of the secret society known as the Illuminati.

Tom Hanks is set to reprise his Da Vinci Code role as Langdon while Ewan McGregor is also attached to star.

However, the film's producers have been prevented from working in the Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria churches due to the Catholic church's unhappiness at the plotline of The Da Vinci Code, which used the premise that Jesus Christ had married and had children with Mary Magdalene, creating a royal bloodline that had been preserved by the church.

And with the Catholic church playing an integral role in the plot of Angels and Demons, Mr Fibbi explained that the diocese had refused permission to the filmmakers to shoot in the two churches owned by the Italian Interior Ministry.

"It's a film that treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment," he told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

"We would be helping them create a work that might well be beautiful but that does not conform to our views."

Angels and Demons is set for a May 2009 release.

Top shows returning

It was an evening of glitz and glamour as CTV rolled out the red carpet and pulled out the big guns, offering all those in attendance at their 2008 Upfront Presentation sneak peaks of their new fall season lineup.

In addition to a look at their new fall 2008 schedule, journalists, media executives, advertising partners and other TV big wigs got to schmooze at Torontos Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts with all the stars.

Stars at the event included Enrico Colantoni (Just Shoot Me, Veronica Mars), Amy Jo Johnson (Felicity, What About Brian), Hugh Dillon (Durham County), Mary Murphy (So You Think You Can Dance Canada, guest judge), Dan Karaty (So You Think You Can Dance Canada, guest judge), and Leah Miller (So You Think You Can Dance Canada, host). Also on hand performing her hit Seven Day Fool was Canadian Idols newest member, R&B singer Jully Black.

CTV announced their fall lineup along with the first ever cross-country, Fall 2008 Schedule for A (formerly A-Channel). The two schedules will complement each other featuring Canadas most-watched programs, breakthrough freshmen hits and seven, new big buzz series.

The announcement comes as CTV ends the 2007/08 broadcast season as Canadas No. 1 network among total viewers for the seventh consecutive year.

A total of 18 of Canadas Top 20 shows will be returning to CTV and A Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Greys Anatomy, ER, Lost, CSI: NY, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, Desperate Housewives and more.

CTV has the most stable schedule in North American broadcasting. Nevertheless, as we did during the strike, we will continue to engage viewers with fresh new content in the few openings we have available, said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.

Two of the seven new series include Flashpoint the Canadian-produced series to be simulcast with CBS, and the world premiere of The Listener, the Canadian-produced series airing in the U.S. on NBC and in 175 other countries. The others are So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Fringe, The Mentalist, Eleventh Hour and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a new series from Lucasfilm Animation.

Corrie actor gets hit with handbags

'Coronation Street' actor Jack P Shepherd has revealed that he often gets attacked by women on the streets because he plays a bad-boy.
The 20-year-old actor, who plays the scheming David Platt in the soap, told The Sun that people frequently react badly to him.
Shepherd said: "It's always the little old ladies who have a go at me."
"Younger people think David is great but the grannies attack me with their handbags. What is it with grannies and their handbags?"
Shepherd also revealed that young children tend to be scared of him when they meet him.
"I scare children, too. They've been known to burst into tears just at the sight of me."
Referring to his upcoming storyline in the soap, where he pushes his mother Gail down a stairs, he said: "I know I'll get more of that next week. They want to know why I'm so awful to my mum so these scenes will really get them going."
"I get a lot of reaction from all sorts of people when I'm out and about but it's generally in good humour so it doesn't bother me."
